I want to know what everyone's ideas are for cars that need engine swaps from different car makers. Don't worry too much about the logistics of the transplant (i.e. whether The engine fits, if manufacturers would coordinate), just think of a car that you'd likely buy if had X engine and explain why.
I saw a Subaru XV Crosstrek today driving in the snow and randomly thought about how I'd probably buy it if it had the 2.4L from a Civic Si in it. It'd make for good mix of power & economy, has a 7000rpm redline, DAT sound and then add the subie's AWD, ride height etc. and then it'd be a winner I'm my books.

Easy, everything needs an LS motor.

I love the XV CrossTrek (especially in that color). I almost bought one earlier this year but the power-train was abysmal. Anything would be better than the 2.0/CVT in it now.

Prius with the v10 from the LFA!

Please no.
LS swaps have their place, but to put them in everything? It'd just be so dull. Variety is the spice of life.

Big or little Duramax in everything!!!

Swap a Honda J series V6 in it. Loads of torque and power when you need it, plus the reliability of a Honda engine, and it doesn't sound half bad either.

Tell me about it! I love the XV, but I don't think I could live with the power... Or lack there of it.

The Lincoln Town Car needs a BMW diesel engine :)

If the ever happens I elect to cat the new car the LMFAO.

That'd be interesting! Super long range town car cruising.

I have several.
Let us start with the Opel Rekord E (1977-1986)
This car jus SCREAMS for some more power and some fantastic noise, so I'd throw a VW W8 in there.. Why? Well..
The next one? This will cause some outrage.. but I'd LOVE to have a Ferrari 308 with the engine from a VW Passat R36... Why? Well, more power is one thing, better reliability is another thing.

Something, anything from Lancia needs a Ferrari engine.
Something from Alfa would do nicely too. Maybe their next saloon and/or mid-sized coupe. I hear that they'll be getting the TTV6 that's in the Ghibli, but I hear a lot about future Alfas, not all of it trustworthy.

Mostly joking.

My dad got an orange one. Or, more specifically, he puts up with an orange one...
He's the kind of person that just "does." So what did he do? He bought it straight up. Well, then he drove it across the country twice. What does he do now? Complain about it. He hates the shift points, he can't figure out the radio, he constantly drives with the valet key because he doesn't like the remote locks (he almost always leaves his cars unlocked).
Now, had he test driven it a couple more times, he probably wouldn't have gotten it. Like most cars he's made the decision of buying after about 1970 (throughout the 60's all he had were muscle cars).
I'd go for a Focus ST swap with the subie AWD/ride height.

This needs an Oldsmobile engine. Oh, wait...

The Continental and Mark VII got it, but not the big car!
I'd love to get one of those old diesels and swap a newer one like the 335d's engine

Chevy Spark + Hayabusa.

No, absolutely not. The Symmetrical AWD is only part of the Subaru package. The horizontal layout plays a big part, too. There have been some Subarus without horizontally opposed engines, but very few.
At least keep it horizontally opposed. I'd put in a Porsche 2.7 H6 from the Cayman if I had to choose an engine from another manufacturer.

Like your style and now you have me thinking. VR6 motor transplanted into my Protege5 would be beyond glorious.

Toyobaru + Alfa 1.75L Turbo I4.
Or beter yet, oldirtybootz's Dart + Alfa 1.75L = fap?

bring that awesome Yamaha V8 back and putting it in the Volvo S60 Polestar as a RWD only vehicle.

Yup, I'd pay good money for the 2.7 from the Cayman. Not to mention, if you got the auto the mileage would actually be better than the 2.4 lol (according to fueleconomy.gov).

A good bunch of the 6.6ers were Olds engines.

Yeah, I have no justifiable reason to not like the 403 but I still like the 400 more. However I would much rather have a 403 over a N/A 301.

I would rather have a Rocket.

Enter the Porsche 912:
Porsche's answer to the backlash that cane from the fans after the company replaced their beloved, perfect 356 with the blasphemous monster with two more cylinders that no-one asked for. It was a SWB 911 with an updated 356 motor. If the 911 was perfectly balanced between chassis stiffness and engine power, the 912 was somewhat significantly lacking in the "engine power" department.
Now, enter the Subaru EJ20 (turbocharged version shown)
The base for the throbbing heart of the golden age of Subaru WRX's and WRX STi's. Reliably repaired, solidly built, and JDM engines are readily available (if a little expensive). Put the two together, and you get something a little like this:
Sacrilegious to the Stuttgart faithful? Most likely. Much faster and more exciting than stock? Oh yes.

Obviously, the Ford Mustang would benefit immensely from a Nissan-sourced VQ-series engine to replace that problematic and anaemic 5.0 L Coyote.

If you throw a V8 into an Opel Rekord what you get is a first-generation Holden Commodore (VB-VL).
...which is itself crying out for a smallblock Ford, if only to inflame the Holden fans.

Toyobaru + Honda F20C (S2000 mill).

Mhm, but I want a w8 :) nothing wrong with a v8, but I have a thing for the vw w8.

The 2.0L Ecoboost would be a fun engine tool, especially with the sound tube symposer thing!

Gonna have to be mid-mounted to make it work.

1) start with a lovely LR Defender 130 (a fantastic mid size commercial vehicle- by UK standards) that needs more power
2) add a 6.4l Ford Powerstroke combined w/the new 8 speed semi auto box found in the full fat Range Rover
3) have yourself an amazing workhorse that looks damn good and goes pretty quick to boot
